Project Background
The crystal waterfall lamp is the highest work of AURORA in Shanghai at present. Invited by Shenzhen LSD, AURORA completed the production of this lamp in March 2021. This crystal waterfall lamp is 11 m in total height and 1.2 m in diameter. The whole lamp is composed of handcrafted crystal pendant arrays. Transiting from the green crystal on the ground to the white crystal on the ceiling, it likes a living crystal waterfall rising up through the sky. LSD architects intended to emphasize the embellishment and integrity in the design, considering the building as a whole, including interior design, details, public space and installation arts inside.
Brief introduction of the lamp:
The lamp consists of 60,000 crystal pendants and 3 stainless steel keels. They vary in color, shape and width. The crystal pendants at each height are specially arranged to form a gradual waterfall effect. If these crystal strips are connected to each other, they will form a 1.3 km long crystal line. All the crystal pendants and load-bearing keels of the crystal lamp are made by hand. Each crystal pendant needs to be cut and polished by craftsmanship master. The keels have been subject to structural load-bearing test before installation. The keels are made of pure stainless steel laser cutting. In order to realize the effect of seeing crystal only by concealing the keels, we tested and upgraded the frame structure for many times. The entire 11-meter-tall crystal lamp is a perfect combination of mechanics/optics/aesthetics.
Lighting effect
Dimmer modules are inside the crystal lamp. Considering easy maintenance, the lamp and load-bearing part are designed as detachable independent structure. The light color can be adjusted to the appropriate temperature and intensity according to specific needs of the space. It can create different atmospheres through light refraction of the crystal pendants.
